The Cincinnati Bengals got back on track with a win over the Denver Broncos in Week 15, but now all eyes turn toward the status of Joe Mixon. The Bengals' running back suffered an ankle injury during the game and his absence could boost the fantasy outlook of backup Samaje Perine in Week 16.
Joe Mixon Injury Update
Mixon left Cincinnati's win multiple times and walked off with a noticeable limp during the fourth quarter. The fifth-year pro will undergo further testing on his ankle on Monday to determine the extent of his injury. Keep in mind that these type of lower-body issues can worsen over time.
For now, Mixon checks in at RB6 in The Duel's Week 16 fantasy football rankings.
Samaje Perine Fantasy Outlook
It wouldn't be surprising to see the Bengals take a careful approach when it comes to Mixon's playing time down the stretch. After all, Perine is no stranger to playing in the NFL and averages a reliable 3.9 yards per rushing attempt in his career. He is simply one of the most capable backups around.
Overall, Perine has racked up 422 yards from scrimmage on 78 touches this season. It's important to note that Bengals also own the 11th-highest rushing play percentage in the NFL (43.9%). Fantasy managers have to be careful here, though. The Bengals are set to face a Baltimore Ravens team in Week 16 that is giving up a league-low 86.2 rushing yards per game.
All things considered, Perine is an underrated waiver wire target this week and comes with FLEX upside if he ends up becoming the starter.
