San Francisco Giants fans couldn't ask for a better start to the season from Joc Pederson. His torrid play to begin the year is in jeopardy of hitting a snag, though, after he was forced to leave Wednesday's game in the third inning.
It's been revealed Pederson made an early exit due to a concerning injury.
Joc Pederson Injury Update
Pederson is dealing with groin tightness after taking an awkward step while running to second base. Though the injury doesn't sound too serious, this is a troublesome area that requires rest to fully heal.
This could be the second Giants player forced out with a groin problem in just over a week, as starting pitcher Alex Cobb was recently placed on the 10-day injured list with a similar issue.
Losing Pederson's red-hot bat would be a blow to this lineup no matter how long he's out. The 30-year-old is slashing .353/.382/.745 with 6 home runs and 10 RBI over his first 16 games.
No one may be more disappointed if the outfielder misses time than Pederson himself. A 10-day IL stint would force him to miss the Giants' first away series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, whom Pederson spent his first seven seasons with.
