Just as his season was getting into full swing, and he had completely taken over the New York Jets backfield, rookie running back Breece Hall suffered a devastating knee injury in Week 7. Hall's season came to a screeching halt with this ACL tear, but that didn't stop the Jets' front office from quickly addressing the situation.
New York moved quick to acquire talented RB James Robinson via a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per reports from Ian Rapoport on Sunday night.
Jacksonville is going through their own backfield transformation as second-year pro Travis Etienne Jr. cemented himself as an RB1. In exchange, the Jets swapped Robinson for a 2023 conditional sixth-round pick.
Robinson joins the Jets after three years in Jacksonville, the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent back in 2020. He burst onto the scene with 1,070 rushing yards and 7 TDs during his rookie campaign, and was similarly successful in 2021 despite the mess that Urban Meyer created for the organization (767 yards, 8 TDs).
The modern NFL running back has a shorter window than ever before. Even the most talented rushers find themselves with little to no job security year in and year out, and that's exactly what happened to Robinson in Jacksonville. Still, he's a talented option in a great move from New York's front office.
