Jerry Rice is known as the unquestioned greatest wide receiver in NFL history. He is also known for being arguably the greatest player in San Francisco 49ers history. He also might be someone who knows a little bit about great quarterbacks too, he did, after all, catch passes from arguably the greatest ever in Joe Montana.

When asked recently about Dak Prescott, Rice praised him for his success but also noted he thinks Jimmy Garoppolo was the better overall quarterback.

"I think [Prescott] would have success. But I don't think he would be like Jimmy G. Overall, I think Jimmy G is the better quarterback than Dak. I'm sorry. I'm just going to call it. That's just my opinion. That's my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I think, right now, with Jimmy G, he's the better quarterback than Dak Prescott.

While the individual numbers don't support this statement, talent isn't always represented in the numbers, and that's what Rice is banking on here.

Jimmy G is indeed coming off a season where he took his team to the Super Bowl, while Prescott has yet to make it past the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. Some may say last year's Niners team was carried by a great defense and running game, and while that mold holds some water, Jimmy G still took them there and stepped up when he was called upon.

This will be a defining season for both Jimmy G and Dak. Jimmy G must prove he can carry a full workload as a quarterback more consistently and Dak must prove he can win against real competition now that he has arguably the most talented offense in the league. For both men, in 2020, there are no excuses.
