Jerick McKinnon's tenure with the San Francisco 49ers is not going as planned. He signed a four-year, $30 million deal in 2018 to become the team's feature back, but tore his ACL before taking a regular-season snap.

While he was expected to recover in time to be ready to play this season, McKinnon suffered a setback, and he is now reportedly going to be placed on injured reserve.

It's unclear whether McKinnon can return at some point this season, but either way, his absence could clarify what was once a muddled 49ers' backfield. Both Tevin Coleman and Matt Breida should see a significant uptick in usage with McKinnon out of the picture, making them interesting fantasy targets.

Coleman is being selected much earlier than Breida, as the former Atlanta Falcon has an average draft position (ADP) of RB26, while Breida is sitting at RB39, according to FantasyPros.com. Coleman racked up 1,076 yards from scrimmage and nine total TDs in Atlanta last season, finishing as RB18 in standard scoring fantasy leagues.

Averaging 4.8 yards per carry while running behind Atlanta's injury-riddled offensive line should be a testament to just how talented he is. Even if he's splitting time with Breida, Coleman could still be really productive in his first year in San Francisco.

As for Breida, the 5-foot-9, 190-pound RB showed out last season, amassing 814 rushing yards on 153 carries. Still, at his size, it's hard to imagine his workload increasing all that much, even with McKinnon set to miss a significant chunk of the season, at the very least.

While Breida and Coleman will likely sap each other's value over the course of the season, their fantasy outlooks have improved dramatically with McKinnon out. On a week-to-week basis, it could be tough figuring out which RB to start, but both Coleman and Breida could return decent value based on their current ADPs.
