Jahmyr Gibbs Scouting Report
Gibbs committed to Georgia Tech coming out of high school and made an immediate impact on the team as an electric kick returner. He flashed potential as a rusher as well and was given the keys to the backfield in his second year, tallying 1,211 yards from scrimmage to go along with 6 touchdowns.
The Georgia native transferred to Alabama for his final college season, which is where he reached his full potential. Gibbs averaged 6.1 yards per carry on the ground and led the team with 44 receptions (1,370 total yards). He garnered second-team All-SEC honors and third-team All-American honors.
The dual-purpose skillset Gibbs possesses is the highlight of his game, but there's a lot more to him than that. He consistently finds open holes with great vision and can change direction on a dime when the ball is in his hands. The elusiveness he showed on every college touch can't be overstated.
Gibbs is not a perfect prospect by any means, though, as there are concerns that his size (5-foot-9 and 200 pounds) may make him an injury liability. It's something that holds him back in pass protection as well. Overall, Gibbs' upside as an early-down back and pass-catching option is sky-high in the NFL.
Jahmyr Gibbs NFL Draft Prediction
While Bijan Robinson is the top-ranked running back in this year's draft class, Gibbs is the clear-cut No. 2 RB. There is not one ball-carrier in this class with the same route tree as Gibbs coming out of the backfield. The Alabama star can run wheel routes, angle routes and option routes without issue.
Pairing Gibbs with a bruising back to limit the wear and tear on his body would be a smart move. That makes the Tennessee Titans a perfect landing spot. Derrick Henry is a force between the tackles and countering his style with a pass-catching RB like Gibbs would give defenses nightmares.
The Titans have the draft pick arsenal needed to select Gibbs, too. There is a chance he is still on the board when their second-round pick arrives at No. 41 overall. Coupling a late-round pick or two in order to trade up into the back end of the first round is another route the front office could take here.
Prediction: Tennessee Titans (Round 2, 41st overall)
