The New Orleans Saints enter the 2022 season with high hopes after barely missing out on the playoffs last year. A lot of that hope is centered around quarterback Jameis Winston and his impending return from a torn ACL. The 28-year-old has taken yet another big step in his recovery.
Jameis Winston Injury Update
Winston has started planting and throwing off play action, which is noteworthy considering how often the Saints employ that style of play. Being able to fake handoffs to running back Alvin Kamara before launching deep balls to rookie Chris Olave will only help Winston better his play in New Orleans.
Of course, the Saints were hot to start the 2021 season, going 5-2 through the first seven weeks with Winston at the helm. He threw for 1,170 yards to go along with 14 touchdowns (3 interceptions) and averaged a career-high 8.2 yards per attempt before suffering a brutal knee injury on Halloween.
The possibility of Winston starting training camp as a full participant is getting more likely with each passing day now. However, the last thing the Saints want to do is rush him back too soon. Having the seven-year pro take it a bit easy in order to stay fresh for Week 1 seems like the most likely move.
When it comes down to it, the Saints posted a 4-6 record without Winston last season. He's their best shot at keeping pace with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South. New Orleans has odds set at +140 to make the playoffs and odds set at +400 to win it all, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
