Ever since legendary quarterback Drew Brees retired at the start of the offseason, fans and experts have been wondering who the New Orleans Saints would name as their starting signal-caller. This decision comes down to two names, Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill.
Although some debate exists surrounding this decision, oddsmakers have seemingly made up their mind. FanDuel Sportsbook favors Winston to be named the Saints' Week 1 starter with odds set at -280. Meanwhile, Hill remains a slight underdog at +220, so there's still an opportunity to change people's minds.
Winston Saints Starting QB Odds
Some may be surprised to see Hill as the underdog, especially after he had four starts at quarterback last season compared to Winston's zero. While the Saints did go 3-1 under Hill, he excels more in the role of a gadget player, running passing routes or taking the occasional handoff. After all, he was sacked 14 times in his QB appearances last season, which is a lot considering the Saints have one of the best offensive lines in the league.
On the other hand, while Winston didn't see much action in 2020, his resume speaks for itself. As a member of the Buccaneers, he recorded 19,737 passing yards and 121 touchdowns over five seasons. The one major blemish is that he threw 30 interceptions in 2019, which is something the Saints coaching staff won't tolerate. However, Winston is fortunate that his head coach is Sean Payton, so if anyone can get him back on track, it's him. If he can control his interception problem, Winston may finally be in the perfect situation to realize his potential.
The Saints currently have the 12th-best odds to win the Super Bowl at +2700, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
