Jaguars Gave One Player Same Pre-Draft Grade as Trevor Lawrence

The Jacksonville Jaguars knew who they were selecting as soon as they passed the New York Jets for the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. There was no doubt about Clemson star quarterback Trevor Lawrence being the top overall selection.

However, it's been revealed that the Jaguars gave another top prospect the same pre-draft grade as Lawrence.

A video series on the team's YouTube channel has given insight into how the franchise approached the draft with the top overall selection in hand. One episode of the series showed glimpses of the Jaguars' board on draft day.

Lawrence's name was placed on the board with an 8.0 grade after going first overall. But Miami Dolphins draft pick Jaylen Waddle also received that same grade from Jacksonville.

It's unclear what an 8.0 means on the Jaguars' team-specific scale, but it's probably reserved for only the best prospects. It was revealed in the series that New York Jets QB Zach Wilson received a 7.0 grade.

Lawrence and Waddle both receiving high marks from the Jags isn't surprising. Both were electric in college at their respective positions and have sky-high potential at the next level.

But it's still intriguing that Lawrence and Waddle were held in a similar regard by the organization. Perhaps Waddle could've landed in Jacksonville if the Jags were only a couple of picks later in this year's draft.
