St. Louis Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty looked to move past his injury troubles after finally making his season debut on June 15. Sunday was the veteran's third start of 2022 after going a combined 6.0 innings in his two previous outings.
However, Flaherty's appearance was cut short once again, and this time for a very concerning reason.
Jack Flaherty Injury Update
The righty was pulled from his start against the Chicago Cubs due to right shoulder stiffness. The fact it's the same shoulder flaring up again after it caused him to miss the first chunk of the season is a very worrisome sign to say the least.
Flaherty missed most of the summer last year due to an oblique strain. Then a right shoulder strain cost him a month down the stretch as well, and that area continued to bother him into Spring Training of this season.
Overall, the 26-year-old pitched just 78.1 innings in 2021. He was extremely effective when healthy, recording a 3.22 ERA and 9-2 record, which makes his health struggles all that more frustrating for Cardinals fans.
Flaherty didn't quite look the same in his return this year, giving up a combined 5 earned runs across his 6.0 innings of work along with 7 walks and 4 strikeouts.
St. Louis will likely be cautious before trotting out Flaherty once again. Hopefully the ace is able to get himself right to help his team make a push for the NL Central crown.
