The Cleveland Cavaliers kick off a three-game road trip in the Big Apple on Tuesday night when they face the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. One player who could turn the tide in this Eastern Conference clash is Cavs star Donovan Mitchell, who's missed Cleveland's last three games with a groin injury.
Donovan Mitchell Injury Update (1/24/2023)
Fortunately for the Cavaliers, Mitchell is listed as probable for Tuesday's game and is expected to make his return. The 26-year-old guard practiced fully on Monday and should be good to go.
Mitchell's return would be a huge boost for the Cavs, who went 1-2 during his three-game absence and are currently fifth in the East at 29-19. He's been their best and most important player all season long, averaging a career-high 28.4 points per game along with 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists in his first season with Cleveland since being acquired from the Utah Jazz.
Donovan Mitchell Fantasy Outlook and Prop Bets Today
As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks or re-aggravate his injury, Mitchell should play close to his usual complement of 36 minutes per game. FanDuel Sportsbook's NBA odds are expecting a similar workload as well based on his prop bets, which are currently set at 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Given that Mitchell is coming back from injury on the road against an above-average defense, we'd lean toward the under on those props.
As for his fantasy impact, Mitchell is priced at $8,400 on FanDuel DFS, which is a bargain considering that he carried a price tag of $9,400 in the three games leading up to his injury. Mitchell is averaging 42.5 fantasy points per game but has struggled with his shot a bit lately. If he can bounce back tonight, however, the three-time All-Star could provide good value at his price point.
