The uncertainty of quarterback Deshaun Watson's suspension is causing Cleveland fans to wonder if the Browns will make a depth move the position. The biggest trade piece available remains Jimmy Garoppolo, but NFL insider Ian Rapoport said he doesn't see the Browns being interested in a deal.
Jimmy Garoppolo Trade Rumors
Rapoport made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show and explained that seeing the Browns trade for Jimmy G would "surprise" him at this point. Even though NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is pushing for a full-year suspension for Watson, Rapoport expects the Cleveland to stay put in the end.
Cleveland signed Jacoby Brissett in the offseason knowing he could end up starting. The six-year veteran has started 37 games in his career already, tossing 36 touchdowns compared to 17 interceptions. He completed 62.7% of his pass attempts for 1,283 yards last year (5 starts).
Meanwhile, Garoppolo is on the final year of his contract and owns a cap hit of just under $27 million in 2022. With the start of the regular season looming, the San Francisco 49ers seem content to keep him on the roster as an expensive backup. Of course, the starting gig is being given to Trey Lance.
Watson was booed vociferously during the Browns' preseason opener in Jacksonville and ended the game with one pass completion for seven yards. A decision regarding the length of his suspension is expected to come any day now. Whether or not it will change Cleveland's mindset is yet to be seen.
The Browns have odds set at +2400 to win Super Bowl 57, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
