No one quite knew what to expect from the Cleveland Indians heading into this MLB season, but they seem to be improving every week. They currently own a 25-20 record and are in contention for a playoff spot. That should make them buyers at the MLB trade deadline in July.
Every team has holes on the roster and the Indians would be smart to make some deals in order to address their own. With that being said, here are three players Cleveland should trade for.
Cleveland Indians Trade Targets
1. Jon Gray, Starting Pitcher
A lot of the Indians' success is stemming from the team's tremendous pitching staff, but they lack a sense of depth behind the top three starters. Acquiring one at the deadline would be a good idea and Jon Gray is a realistic target. The 29-year-old is part of a struggling Colorado Rockies team, yet is putting together one of the best seasons of his career. He has a 4-4 record through 10 starts and has posted a 3.43 ERA across 57.2 innings pitched so far. He doesn't have top of the rotation stuff, but Gray is the perfect pitcher to have at the No. 4 or No. 5 spot.
2. Joey Gallo, Outfielder
Outfielder Joey Gallo is a popular name in the trade market this season and Cleveland should be one of many teams interested in him. The Indians do not have three reliable outfielders on the roster right now and are leaning on Eddie Rosario to carry the load himself. Acquiring Gallo would give the team one of the best three-way power punches in the league as he would join sluggers Franmil Reyes and Jose Ramirez in the lineup. The 27-year-old has racked up 7 home runs and 21 RBIs this season. The Indians could make a major splash by making a deal for Gallo.
3. Brandon Belt, First Base
Yes, the San Francisco Giants are in first place in the NL West division, but that doesn't mean everyone on their roster is untouchable. The Giants feature a lot of depth at first base and Brandon Belt is playing on the last year of his contract. Cleveland is in dire need of a reliable player at that position and Belt fits the bill. He plays great defense and is swinging a solid bat this season. His slash line of .234/.353/.486 is better than any first baseman on the Indians' roster right now. This is one veteran that sticks out as a potential trade target.
