Indians Get Good News With Franmil Reyes Injury Update

For the longest time this season, it seemed like nobody could keep up with the Chicago White Sox for the AL Central lead. However, they've lost four games in a row and that's allowed the Cleveland Indians a shot at catching them. The Indians are 7-3 in their last 10 matchups and trail the White Sox by just 2.5 games. Fortunately for Cleveland, the club could be getting some reinforcements soon to help with the chase.
Indians designated hitter Franmil Reyes has been out of the team's lineup since May 22 with an internal oblique strain. The good news is that he's scheduled to begin his rehab assignment with Cleveland's Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, OH this week, meaning that Reyes could be back much sooner than expected.

Franmil Reyes Injury Update
Reyes' timetable to return was supposed to be between five to seven weeks. Considering how it's been less than a month since he left the lineup, this is good news for the Indians.
The 25-year-old DH has looked better offensively in the 2021 MLB season than he did in the previous campaign. Reyes currently has 11 home runs and 29 RBI in 144 at-bats this season compared to the 9 homers and 34 RBI in 221 ABs in 2020. Reyes is also having a career year when it comes to his slugging percentage, which is a team-best .576. Hopefully this is the start of Cleveland putting its injury issues in the past.
Even though the Indians are closing in on the White Sox for the AL Central lead, they still have oddsmakers doubting their ability to catch their rivals. FanDuel Sportsbook has set Cleveland's odds to win the division at +450, while Chicago sits at -480. Meanwhile, the Indians' odds to win this season's World Series are set at +4800, which ranks 16th in the league.
