Impressive Stat Proves Sean McDermott Extension Was a Great Move by the Bills
By Max Staley

The Buffalo Bills have not exactly been the league's most dominant franchise in recent years. But they've undoubtedly been trending in the right direction since hiring Sean McDermott in 2017. As a result, the Bills made the right call and signed him to a six-year extension.
A slightly deeper look at the numbers proves just how good this signing is.
In the 16 seasons prior to hiring Sean McDermott, the Bills had just 2 winning seasons and never made the playoffs.

In 3 years, he's led them to the playoffs twice with 2 winning seasons, built an incredible culture & helped lead a defense that has been 1 of the NFL's stingiest.
The Bills had missed the playoffs for 16 consecutive seasons before hiring McDermott, and they only had two winning seasons during that stretch.
McDermott, on the other hand, has led this team to two playoff appearances in three years, posting a 25-23 record during that stretch. His calling card has been defense, and he's built one of the best defensive units in football.
Buffalo has ranked in the top three in yards allowed in back-to-back seasons, and the Bills finished as the second-best scoring defense in 2019.

With McDermott in town for another six years, the Bills should remain an AFC East contender for quite some time.
