Charlotte Hornets star point guard LaMelo Ball missed the start of the season as he worked his way back from a sprained ankle suffered during a preseason game. On Wednesday night in just his third game back, the third-year guard sustained another injury to that same left ankle when he stepped on the foot of a fan trying to save a ball from going into the crowd.
LaMelo Ball Injury Update
Luckily, things don't seem to be as serious this time and X-rays on Ball's ankle came back negative. Still, head coach Steve Clifford has decided to give Ball some rest and has already ruled him out of Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers as the team continues to assess the full extent of Ball's most recent injury.
Hopefully this latest setback doesn't keep Ball off the court for long. His season is already off to a rough start and it will be even more frustrating if he misses additional time.
Getting Ball healthy for the long run is Charlotte's top priority, though, so expect the team to err on the side of caution, especially so early in the season. The Hornets may have a tough time without their former first-round pick on Friday, however, against a tough Cavaliers team that's been playing well with Donovan Mitchell.
