The Green Bay Packers wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a commanding 37-10 win on Sunday night. With a first-round bye and home-field advantage in the playoffs already under its belt, there's serious discussion about Green Bay resting its starters against the Detroit Lions in Week 18.
Star wide receiver Davante Adams has weighed in on that possibility.
Packers Rest Starters
Adams is advocating for even the most important members of the team (including himself and Aaron Rodgers) to play against the Lions. The wideout believes it'll help keep Green Bay sharp heading into the playoffs.
It's hard to argue with Adams' reasoning. Ahead of the 2021 NFL Playoffs, Sports Illustrated reported that teams who rested their players had a .333 win percentage in their first playoff game.
Additionally, in the Aaron Rodgers era, the Packers have never made it past the NFC Championship game when avoiding the Wild Card round. The one time they made (and won) the Super Bowl, the Packers were a Wild Card team, and didn't have any weeks off.
The Packers' key players sitting out mean they'd go a full two weeks without any real game scenarios. That could put this talented squad at a disadvantage when they face a team high off of a Wild Card win in the Divisional Round.
Green Bay's roster is certainly hurting, and they won't want to risk any further losses for a potential Super Bowl run, so it'll be a hard balance to strike for head coach Matt LaFleur. Perhaps Adams and company will at least get a quarter or half of game time in Week 18 ahead of the postseason.
