The 2021 MLB season is just a week old and there are some causes for concern in the Chicago Cubs organization. Upon first glance, things don't look too bad. After all, a 3-3 record has the team sitting third in the NL Central.
However, Jeremy Frank, someone who's known in the baseball world for sharing interesting stats, pointed out something interesting about the Cubs' current batting averages.
You read that right. Somehow pitchers across the MLB have a better batting average (.154) than the Cubs' organization does (.124). No matter what the situation is, this would be embarrassing for any team.
The Cubs have struggled at the plate so far this season. While it's only been six games, 3B Kris Bryant and 2B Eric Sogard lead the team with .200 batting averages. Beyond that, things look even more bleak as three of the Cubs' starting positional players have sub-.100 batting averages. While the team is fortunate enough to have a 3-3 record at this point, the bats will need to heat up if the Cubs want any success this season.
The MLB season is 162 games for a reason, meaning it isn't too late for the Cubs to turn things around. Still, that won't stop fans from mocking this hilarious statistic in the meantime.
