The Seattle Mariners have been one of the most fun stories to follow throughout the 2022 MLB season. Their last feat saw the club end the longest playoff drought in professional sports, leading to them being one of The Duel's dark horses to win the 2022 World Series.

Having said that, Mariners fans are unsure of where their team will be seeded in the postseason. Seattle currently occupies the American League's second wild-card spot, but there's still a chance that the Tampa Bay Rays could pass them for that position.

Fortunately, the Mariners have a chance to clinch the AL's No. 5 seed on Tuesday and it only involves some simple math.

Seattle Mariners Playoffs

The Mariners can clinch the No. 5 seed if they win both of their doubleheader games against the Detroit Tigers. They can also lock down the spot with just one win as long as the Rays lose to the Boston Red Sox.

A win against the Tigers might seem easy on paper, but it was just under 24 hours ago that Detroit scored a 4-3 win over Seattle. Fortunately, that may have only been a fluke considering how the Mariners won the three previous games against the Tigers this season by a combined score of 21-6.

Still, the Tigers are an impressive 11-4 in their last 15 road games, so they shouldn't be taken lightly. Team leaders like Eugenio Suarez, Ty France and Julio Rodriguez must stand up and deliver so that Seattle gets the best postseason positioning possible.

Tigers vs Mariners Doubleheader Game 1

Despite Monday's loss, the Mariners are projected to rebound against the Tigers. FanDuel Sportsbook favors Seattle at -166 on the moneyline to beat Detroit in Game 1 of the doubleheader, which begins at 6:10 p.m. ET.
