Hawai'i has appeared in this bowl nine previous times. They are 5-4 in the Hawai'i Bowl, most recently defeating BYU, 38-34 in 2019, the last time this bowl was played.

Memphis has never appeared in the Hawai'i Bowl. They defeated FAU, 25-10, in the 2020 Montgomery Bowl, their last bowl game appearance.
