The Gulfstream Championship Meet continues Friday with 9 races and post time at 12:40 p.m. ET. Saturday's Florida Derby picks headlines the biggest card of the meet with 10 stakes races.

As always, check the program for scratches and changes, monitor the weather and keep an eye on the track conditions.

(I may reference Equibase's Speed Figure in selected races, which tells you how fast a horse has been running in each of its races after adjusting for track, distances, and conditions).

Race 7 is an Allowance race for older horses sprinting 6 furlongs. The numberFire data projects the favorite Spirit Wind (8/5) to win and Bluefield (4/1) to hit the board. Spirit Wind makes his 2023 debut. He's won 3-of-5 starts, all at Gulfstream, and ran his fastest race last summer when finishing second in a Grade 2 race.

Race 8 is a Claiming race for older horses moved from the turf to Tapeta surface. There are six runners since #4 and #7 were scratched with the surface change. The numberFire top pick is Kinenos (7/2). Megacity (3/1) and Yomato (6/1) are capable. Magacity won in January and finished third a month ago after running on the lead as the favorite over the turf.

3. Drum Roll and Yooou Know, Race 9

Race 9 is a Maiden Claimer for 3-year-old fillies sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on the Tapeta All Weather Track. The numberFire picks include Yooou Know (4/1) on top with leading jockey Jose Ortiz riding. Forever Uncaptured (6/1) and Megan Makin Money (7/2) are projected to hit the board. Drum Roll (5/1) makes his debut from the rail and is worth a win wager for the meets leading trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr.
