Minnesota Wild vs Vegas Golden Knights News, Analysis, and Picks
The Vegas Golden Knights failed to eliminate the Minnesota Wild in Game 5. Now, the series heads back to Minnesota with a little more momentum on the Wild's side. Will Wednesday night's encounter be the Wild's last game of the season?
Through five games, the advanced metrics favor the Golden Knights. These teams have traded punches throughout the series, but Vegas has posted an expected goals-for percentage above 50% at five-on-five in three of the five games. Those three games have been absolutely dominant performances, — with the Knights attempting more than 40 shots in all three games while out-chancing the Wild in scoring and high-danger chances.
The Knights' inspired production metrics haven't resulted in substantive output yet. Vegas is scoring on only 8.3% of their shots and 17.1% of their high-danger shots, with both percentages off their regular season averages by a couple of points. Considering how well the Golden Knights have been producing, it's only a matter of time before output catches up with production.
Cam Talbot has shone in both of the Wild victories this series. However, his inconsistent efforts might be the difference between the Wild being eliminated and making a berth in the second round. Talbot has failed to post consecutive above-average save percentages in any of his last 12 games. He is 5-5-2 with an 89.9% save percentage during that span while posting below-average save percentages in eight of the 12 games. With metrics like that, we would expect a few more losses to follow.
The Golden Knights are due for increased output, and Talbot's metrics are suffering, leaving the two on a collision course unlikely to end well for the Wild. We're making a play on three wagers in this one with the Golden Knights moneyline and puckline wagers, with a play on the over at plus-money.
