The ongoing theme of Evan Longoria struggling to stay healthy and on the field continued for the San Francisco Giants. San Francisco placed the veteran third baseman on the 10-day IL, marking his second trip to the injured list already in 2022.

Team insider Susan Slusser shared some postgame notes on Wednesday night following the Giants' 7-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fortunately, there's some optimism involved with Longoria's latest ailment.

Evan Longoria Injury Update

Slusser reported that Longoria's injury is considered "mild" and he may just have to miss the required 10 days.

Longoria may struggle to stay on the field, but he's a proven productive bat in San Francisco's lineup when healthy. His .793 OPS mark ranks second amongst Giants' starters and a .242 batting average in more than capable in today's MLB.

Staying on the field is much easier said than done, however. Longoria only suited up in exactly half of San Francisco's games a year ago. Considering the 2022 season just hit the halfway point, his second IL trip adds to the frustration.

San Francisco looks to stay relevant in a tough NL West division. The Giants trail the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers by 10.5 games, but are just 1.0 game back of the National League's final Wild Card spot.

For now, the Longoria-less Giants hold +3800 odds to win the 2022 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
