Not many teams release 28-year-old Pro Bowl cornerbacks. Even fewer teams see their former Pro-Bowl cornerback sign with a division rival. Of course, few teams also consistently have the roster issues that the New York Giants do.
Now, just a few days after losing James Bradberry to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants have made a pretty sad free agent signing to replace him.
Michael Jacquet was a fun surprise for the Eagles in 2020, making two starts as an undrafted free agent. He ended up moving back to the practice squad, however, before spending 2021 on the Jacksonville Jaguars' practice squad.
Jacquet received just a 46.2 overall grade from ProFootballFocus as a rookie, and not being able to make the Jags' active roster tells you just how little of an impact he figures to make on an NFL roster.
The Giants are clearly desperate for secondary help at this point, with three rookie corners and three rookie safeties on the roster, but yikes. Things are not going well for you if Michael Jacquet is your answer to losing Bradberry.
Predictably, the Giants aren't getting much love in the betting markets this offseason. FanDuel Sportsbook's NFL odds have the Giants ranked dead-last, at +700 in the odds to win the NFC East. The Eagles rank second at +220, while the Cowboys are the favorites at +110.
