The San Francisco Giants and LA Dodgers' rivalry dates back over 130 years to when both teams were New York-based. Though the feud has created many memorable moments on the field, it's also led to the two sides stealing each other's free agents over the years, including the likes of Dusty Baker, Brett Butler and Brian Wilson.

With the MLB's free agency here, the time is right for the Giants to steal another one of their NL West rival's free agents. San Francisco needs some help after missing the playoffs in five of the last six seasons. Stealing a player away from the Dodgers not only improves Gabe Kapler's squad but hurts the former in the process.

If the Giants want to steal someone from the Dodgers, they should snag veteran outfielder Joey Gallo. After all, Joc Pederson is a free agent after one of the best seasons of his career, likely leading to a bigger payday. Assuming he doesn't return, San Francisco has a hole to fill.

Instead of overpaying for Pederson, it makes sense for the Giants to bring in someone like Gallo on a 'prove it' deal. The two-time MLB All-Star is coming off a down year split between the New York Yankees and Dodgers, tallying 19 home runs with 47 RBIs while batting .160 in 126 games.

Having said that, there's a good chance that performance was an anomaly. It was only in 2021 that he cranked out 38 round-trippers and 77 RBIs, leading the American League with 111 walks before earning both All-Star and Gold Glove honors.

Furthermore, he's still a solid defender, recording a .988 fielding percentage in 898.1 outfield innings in 2022. Even if the Giants don't want to use him as an everyday outfielder, he's a solid bat to occasionally throw in the designated hitter spot.

A change in scenery is exactly what Gallo needs. He's only 28 years old, so better days could be ahead of him. Besides, he's the one with something to prove, so the Giants likely won't break the bank to sign him. Spotrac currently projects Gallo having an annual market value of just over $8.9 million, compared to Pederson's potential $14.6 million price tag.
