Giants Get Worrying Jakob Junis Injury Update

The San Francisco Giants thumped the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers, 7-2, on Friday night, but it wasn't all smiles in the Bay Area. Giants starting pitcher Jakob Junis left the mound during the sixth inning with a lower-body injury, leaving fans feeling concerned.

Unfortunately, it's believed that the 29-year-old is dealing with a hamstring injury and will undergo an MRI on Saturday for further results. MLB.com's Maria I. Guardado reported after the game that the Giants are also concerned that Junis may end up on the injured list.

Jakob Junis Injury Update

Junis was pitching well before disaster struck. He had given up two runs while striking out five betters over as many innings pitched and only gave up one walk.

Losing Junis for any period of time would be a blow for the Giants. They already have several key players on the IL, including pitchers Alex Cobb and Anthony DeSclafani, as well as former All-Star first baseman Brandon Belt.

After spending the first five years of his career in Kansas City, Junis has looked phenomenal with San Francisco. He's gone 4-1 in nine appearances (seven starts), scoring the victory in three of his last four outings. On top of that, his 2.63 ERA and 0.958 WHIP are the best among the Giants' starters.

Hopefully, Junis has a speedy recovery so that he can re-join the Giants in their pursuit to catch the Dodgers in the divisional race.

The Giants have a chance to tighten their 5.5-game gap from the top of the NL West when they host the Dodgers again on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. ET. FanDuel Sportsbook lists the Giants as +146 underdogs on the moneyline, whereas the Dodgers are favored at -174.
