This year has been a disappointing season for the San Francisco Giants. After a stellar 2021 that saw them win 107 regular-season games and the NL West, they have regressed dramatically in 2022. Many of the players that were major contributors to last season's team have either left or have experienced a significant dip in production.

While Joey Bart wasn't a big part of last year's team, he was a major prospect at one point for the Giants and hasn't been able to translate that success to the MLB level yet. He was demoted earlier in the year and is still searching for consistency in the majors.

Bart has also dealt with some injuries this season, only suiting up in 74 games so far in 2022. The injury bug has bit him again and the Giants are bringing up catcher Andrew Knapp from the minors while Bart is on the 7-day injured list with a concussion.

Andrew Knapp Giants Debut

Knapp has been in and out of the majors since 2017, spending time with the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Seattle Mariners and now San Francisco. He owns a career .209/.309/.314 slash line.

While Knapp's numbers don't jump off the page, he should be able to keep things stable until Bart is able to return. After all, Bart's career .231/.304/.372 slash line isn't all that much better.

The Giants are currently 9.5 games out of the final NL Wild Card spot and have lost six in a row, so Bart's absence couldn't have come at a worse time. Even if Knapp suddenly transforms into Buster Posey while Bart is out, San Francisco will need nothing short of a miracle to make the playoffs.
