Giants Book Interview With Big Name for Defensive Coordinator Opening

The New York Giants cleaned house following another disappointing showing during the 2021 NFL season. Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll have been brought in as the new general manager and head coach, respectively, leaving several other positions waiting to be filled.
One of the open positions is the defensive coordinator spot. Former Chicago Bears DC Sean Desai is one candidate for the position, but the Giants have since added another big name to the list.

Giants Defensive Coordinator
Multiple insiders — including Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo — have reported that the Giants are set to interview former Baltimore Ravens DC Don "Wink" Martindale for the defensive coordinator opening.
Martindale spent 10 seasons with the Ravens, guiding their defense since 2018. Baltimore finished with a top-3 scoring defense in three of his four seasons as defensive coordinator, so the hope is that he can eventually have a similar impact with New York.
On the other hand, the Giants experience the opposite experience over that timeframe, finishing as a bottom-10 defense three times since 2018. It'll take a lot of work to turn things around, but Martindale might be the perfect person to pull it off.
Whoever lands the Giants DC will have a tough task ahead of them. Fortunately, the Giants will have nine picks at the 2022 NFL Draft — including two in the first seven selections.
