After qualifying for the postseason just once in the last 18 years, the Las Vegas Raiders are hoping to find success in the 2021 NFL season. They've spent the offseason trying to improve their roster, with their most recent move coming on Wednesday when they signed six-time Pro-Bowler Gerald McCoy to a one-year deal. Now, the details of said contract has been revealed.

The veteran defensive tackle will earn a base salary of $1.1 million in 2021. He also received a $150,000 signing bonus and can earn up to $750,000 more in playing incentives. At the end of the day, McCoy's contract adds up to potentially $2 million when all is said and done.

McCoy is looking for a fresh start with the Raiders. He signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys in March 2020, however, he was later cut in August of that year after suffering a ruptured quadriceps injury that forced him to miss the entire campaign.

If McCoy has fully recovered from his injury and can play as he did in 2019, the Raiders should be happy with that production. In 16 games with the Carolina Panthers that year, McCoy recorded 37 total tackles (7 for a loss), 5.0 sacks and 2 passes defended. His efforts earned him a 72.4 overall grade on Pro Football Focus, which shows how effective he can be when healthy.

The truth is that Las Vegas could use the sort of play that the 33-year-old veteran brings. The Raiders interior defense left a lot to be desired in 2020 as the team allowed 125.8 rushing yards per game — tied for the 10th-highest average in the NFL. That's not even to mention the fact that they gave up the second-most touchdowns on the ground per game as well (1.5). Needless to say, something has to change if Las Vegas wants to be competitive and McCoy can certainly help in that regard.

Unfortunately, the Raiders have some doubters when it comes to any potential success in the 2021 NFL season. FanDuel Sportsbook is currently projecting Las Vegas to miss the playoffs at -480 odds.
