The Toronto Blue Jays may have to wait to show off their prized off-season acquisition, as George Springer looks as though he will not be ready for Opening Day. According to his MRI results, Springer has reportedly progressed well from a Grade 2 oblique strain, but the Jays may want to play it safe with their newest investment.
The former Houston Astro was diagnosed with the strain just over a week ago but was able to hit off a tee on Saturday and Sunday. Toronto will take as much time and thought as needed before making their final decision on putting Springer on the IL. The Blue Jays have a few more days before they will begin their season in New York against the Yankees on Thursday afternoon.
Springer had 14 home runs and 32 RBI in 51 games for Houston in the pandemic-shortened season last year following 2019, where the slugger clubbed 36 home runs to go along with 96 RBI and 96 runs scored. At FanDuel Sportsbook, Toronto is favored to go over 86 wins with -130 odds while Springer sits at +3000 to win the AL MVP.
