George Kittle Makes Strong Statement on 49ers' QB Situation

The San Francisco 49ers' quarterback situation will be a hot topic all offseason long. The expected departure of veteran Jimmy Garoppolo opens the door for youngsters Trey Lance and Brock Purdy to battle it out for QB1 duties.

Tight end George Kittle weighed in on the 49ers' dilemma with some surprising comments.

Speaking with fellow NFL star Von Miller, Kittle said "In my opinion, it's Brock's job to lose." The tight end added San Francisco's offense under Purdy was "operating at the highest it's probably been since 2019."

That is some serious praise from one of the team's top contributors. The fact he compared the offense to the unit that went to the Super Bowl under Garoppolo shows how strong of an impression Purdy made during his seven full starts.

Kittle's comments give a glimpse into what Niners players are thinking, and it appears Lance has some major ground to make up after seeing his season ended early due to injury. This roster is built to compete right now, so head coach Kyle Shanahan will choose the best option to lead this team, plain and simple.

It remains to be seen if Lance is ready to take command of the 49ers. How he and Purdy both recover from their respective surgeries will also play a huge factor heading into training camp.
