Frontrunner for Possible Luis Castillo Trade Emerges

As the MLB offseason continues, the latest rumors point to teams calling the Cincinnati Reds about right-handed starting pitcher Luis Castillo. Now, it's looking like one team has emerged as the frontrunner in a potential trade.
MLB insider Jon Heyman reported Monday that while a lot of teams are calling the Reds, it's the Los Angeles Angels who "are a the forefront of those talks."
Teams are pressing for Luis Castillo even though Reds have suggested they’d prefer to keep him. Angels are at the forefront of those talks (@Morosi 1st mentioned). Sonny Gray remains available.

Luis Castillo Trade Rumors
The MLB Network's Jon Morosi initially reported the Angels' interest in Castillo on Sunday. He said that the two sides have had "preliminary trade talks," however, a deal isn't close to being done.
Castillo finished this year with an 8-16 record, pitching to a 3.98 ERA and 1.364 WHIP. The former All-Star is signed until the end of the 2022 season at $7.5 million and has one year of arbitration remaining.
It shouldn't be too surprising that the Angels want to continue loading up their rotation. After all, they signed another former All-Star in Noah Syndergaard to a one-year, $21 million contract about two weeks ago. With American League MVP Shohei Ohtani also in the rotation, it could be a big year for L.A. on the mound.
Next year's postseason is a ways away, however, the Angels currently have +3200 odds (T-15th) to win the 2022 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
It's not unfathomable to imagine those odds improving if the Angels can bring in Castillo.
