The 2022 MLB season has come to a conclusion, meaning front offices around the league are now going to start shifting attention to offseason free agents. 131 players were officially declared as free agents on Sunday, including four San Francisco Giants pros that made a noteworthy impact this past year.
The list includes a pair of notable position players in 1B Brandon Belt and OF Joc Pederson. Belt joined the franchise back in 2011 and acted as an important member of two World Series championship teams in 2012 and 2014.
A 12-year Giants veteran, Belt has 175 home runs and 584 RBIs in his career.
Pederson is a newer face, joining the franchise on a one-year contract prior to 2022. The short contract was quite a success as Pederson earned his first All-Star appearance 2015 while slashing .274/.353/.521 with 23 home runs and 70 RBIs.
Alvarez and Miller struggled in the bullpen in 2022. Alvarez pitched in 21 games (15.1 innings) with a 5.28 ERA while Miller allowed five earned runs in just 7.0 innings of work.
San Francisco enters the offseason primed to spend big. They are considered a potential favorite to lure Aaron Judge away from the New York Yankees and have big pockets to help build a championship roster in 2023. For now, the Giants hold +4000 odds to win the 2023 World Series on FanDuel Sportsbook.
