Michael Thomas' future in New Orleans is incredibly murky heading into the 2023 offseason. The star wide receiver and the Saints agreed to a contract restructure earlier this month that could pave the way for his exit following a myriad of health issues.

Now the first update on the situation following that change has emerged.

New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen spoke with reporters on Monday following the official end of the season. One of the topics Allen addressed was Thomas' future as a Saint. He said no final decision has been made on the wideout, or any other major personnel changes.

Though Allen didn't give away any specifics, his comments are certainly notable. It appears Thomas departing is a legit possibility at the very least and the team will take as much time as it needs to mull over a possible split.

It's been all downhill for the former All-Pro wideout in New Orleans following his Offensive Player of the Year win in 2019. Thomas played in just seven games the next season due to injuries, including a significant ankle issue that ended his year early. The WR then didn't rehab the ailment properly in the offseason and was forced to miss the entire 2021 campaign as a result of his negligence.

Thomas appeared to be back to his old self to begin this year, flashing his game-changing abilities. However, he suffered a toe injury in Week 3 and missed the rest of the campaign despite it originally being labeled as a minor issue.

Now the Saints must decide on the nearly $32 million roster bonus Thomas will earn if he's still around by March 17 of this year. A release of the talented wideout would afford this cash-strapped team some cap breathing room entering the offseason.
