Joey Gallo's fantasy baseball owners got some bad news Thursday, when it was announced that the 2019 MLB All-Star will undergo surgery to repair a broken hamate bone in his right wrist. That's a lot of lost production, as Gallo has already racked up 22 homers and 49 RBI in 70 games played this season.
As fantasy owners will surely be heading to the waiver wire to find a viable replacement once Gallo is placed on IL, here are three players to consider picking up.
1. Adam Eaton, Washington Nationals
Adam Eaton has been hot as of late, batting .308 with one homer, eight runs scored and two steals in his last 52 at-bats. While he won't make up for the homers and RBI you'll lose with Gallo on the IL, Eaton is an upgrade in the other three standard categories.
2. Rougned Odor, Texas Rangers
If it's homers you need, then look no further than another player in the Rangers' lineup. Rougned Odor has five jacks and 11 RBI in his last 44 at-bats, putting his season totals at 18 and 58, respectively. He's hit 30-plus homers twice in his career and he is on pace to do it again this season.
3. Mike Yastrzemski, San Francisco Giants
The grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, Mike Yastrzemski, has been hitting like his grandfather recently. In his last 53 at-bats, the Giants' outfielder has four homers, 10 runs scored and 13 RBI to go along with a .914 OPS. Owned in 10 percent of Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball leagues, Yastrzemski is more than likely available in your league and could help ease the pain of losing a slugger like Gallo.
