With the Masters just weeks away, PGA Tour players are gearing up for the first major of the year with these last few tournaments. So an elite field is heading to Florida this week for the Valspar Championship.
Let's take a look at some golfers to consider when putting together your fantasy team this week.
Valspar Championship Fantasy
Justin Thomas has enjoyed both a fantastic start to this season and a really solid history at this course. In four starts here, (outside of one missed cut) Thomas has never placed worse than 18th and even has a top-10 finish among them. However, he's been playing fantastic golf all season. Thomas has five top-10 finishes and four top-five finishes in his eight starts this season. He ranks top-10 on tour in Strokes Gained (SG): Approach The Green (9th), SG: Tee-To-Green (4th) and SG: Total (9th). If he continues this run, he could be hoisting the trophy on Sunday.
Xander Schauffele is also having a great season, but he doesn't have the reps on this course that Thomas does. In fact, Schauffele doesn't have any. Nevertheless, he's on here because of his recent form, not his resume on this course. Prior to missing the cut at THE PLAYERS Championship. Schauffele had four top-13 finishes in his last five starts. For a guy with great ball striking abilities, this course should get him back on track this week.
This is your value play this week. Yes, Woodland has missed the cut here in three consecutive years. Although, he also once upon a time won on this course, and he has a couple of top-10s to his name, so I tend to lean more toward his recent form was the effect rather than the course itself. Take a look this year and while yes, he did miss last week's cut at THE PLAYERS Championship, his two starts prior to that he came away with a t-5 finish in both of them. For the number you're getting him at here, Woodland could really surprise people this week.
