The Atlanta Falcons know their time with Matt Ryan playing at a high level is nearing its end. At 36 years old and with 14 full seasons under his belt, the Falcons would benefit from getting a legitimate succession plan in place.
Falcons Draft Rumors
The upcoming NFL Draft is the perfect avenue to find a future starting QB, and it appears Atlanta is doing its homework on the top prospects.
Desmond Ridder Falcons
Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder said at the Senior Bowl that he's met with the Falcons. It's noteworthy at the very least that Atlanta sought out one of the top QB prospects during the first few days of this senior showcase.
Ridder shined last season for the Bearcats, throwing for 3,334 yards and 30 TDs (with 8 INTs) in 14 games. He also showed off his dual-threat potential by rushing for 355 yards and another 6 TDs as a senior.
RIdder's senior campaign capped off an impressive four-year career as Cincinnati's starter, finishing with a combined 10,239 passing yards and 87 TDs (with 28 INTs). He added 2,180 rushing yards and 28 scores while with the Bearcats.
Ridder's ability to make plays through the air and on the ground positions him as an intriguing prospect with tantalizing potential. Concerns about his slight frame and accuracy, though, have led to him being mocked as a likely second-round pick.
The Falcons have plenty of draft capital at their disposal heading into April, including two second-rounders (No. 43 and 58), Atlanta can more than afford to take a chance on Ridder as Ryan's possible successor if they like what they see at the Senior Bowl.
