Falcons Take Major Step Toward Potential Deshaun Watson Trade

With Tom Brady unretiring, the entire NFC South is once again playing catch-up at the quarterback position. That explains why the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers have already met with Deshaun Watson in hopes of convincing him to waive his no-trade clause, and why the Atlanta Falcons are next.
After expressing interest in Watson yesterday, the Falcons officially have a meeting lined up on Wednesday.
The #Falcons will meet with #Texans QB Deshaun Watson today, per me and @TomPelissero, the fourth such meeting for a team that has extended a trade offer for Watson. The #Saints, #Panthers, and #Browns are the others.

This is a massive step for Atlanta. Landing a meeting with Watson means that they've likely already worked out a potential trade with the Houston Texans, as that has been a requirement of getting permission to meet with him.
The first step for the Saints, Panthers, and Browns in arranging a meeting with QB Deshaun Watson was presenting a trade package to the Texans, per multiple league sources. Once Houston approved, only then did they meet.

Ultimately Watson's no-trade clause gives him a ton of control over his fate here, as he can decide which team he will waive the clause for.
Atlanta's roster, outside of Kyle Pitts, isn't exactly the ideal landing spot for a young star quarterback. Watson is a Georgia native, however, and following his multiple sexual misconduct lawsuits, Watson may view a return to his hometown team as an opportune way to build a "redemption story" narrative.
FanDuel Sportsbook's Super Bowl odds currently have the Falcons tied for 18th in the NFL at +4000, and landing Watson would be sure to give that number a boost.
