Cordarrelle Patterson's breakout campaign at the age of 30 was one of the more impressive stories during the 2021 NFL season. The versatile Atlanta Falcons veteran recorded a career-best 1,166 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns last season, making him one of the more sought-after free agents in the upcoming offseason.

While he will likely field plenty of offers, that doesn't mean Patterson is ready to move on from Atlanta. In fact, Falcons fans will love his approach to the upcoming free agency period.

Cordarrelle Patterson Free Agency

AtlantaFalcons.com writer Kris Rhim reported Friday morning that Patterson is "campaigning relentlessly" for the Falcons to re-sign him. He's even gone as far as writing "cut the check" on his cleats in hopes that he'll be kept in Atlanta.

Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot commented on the situation, saying that he hasn't really "noticed" Patterson's campaign to be re-signed.

"[Patterson's] funny, though, man. He's a great teammate, and he did some great stuff this year, but I don't notice it, man."

Terry Fontenot

Fontenot might be joking to keep the discussion out of the media, but it's hard not to notice that Patterson was Atlanta's best player in 2021. The team used him both as a wideout and running back, resulting in 52 catches for 548 receiving yards and five touchdowns while also seeing 153 carries for 618 rushing yards and six ground scores.

Patterson will be 31 at the start of the 2022 NFL season and running backs aren't always reliable when they reach their 30s. As much as he loves the Falcons fans and vice versa, management might opt for younger offensive options in free agency and the NFL Draft.

Nevertheless, you have to admire Patterson's dedication to getting re-signed. It remains to be seen if that effort will pay off or be all nought.
