Despite finishing 29-31 in the 2020 MLB Season, the Houston Astros still managed to make it to the American League Championship. Unfortunately, they lost in 7 games to the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite that finish, fans should still be excited about this season. ESPN's Opening Day power rankings have the Astros in the No. 9 position with a projected 93-69 record.

If anything, it seems as if the 29-31 record from last season will be forgotten if the Astros do end up having 90+ wins in 2021. While the Astros still have stiff divisional competition in the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics, they're still projected to finish on top of the AL West.

The Houston Astros' roster has the potential to be one of the higher-scoring teams in the MLB last season. Some of that depends on whether Yordan Alvarez stays healthy or not this season. In his rookie season back in 2019, Alvarez managed to hit 27 home runs and 78 RBI in 313 at-bats. Unfortunately, he missed all but two games in 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19 and having knee surgery. If he stays healthy, Alvarez can take the Astros to new heights.

While George Springer has left the Astros, the organization is fortunate enough to still have a core that includes the likes of Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman and Carlos Correa. A lot of Houston's success this season could specifically depend on Altuve. His 2020 season was a disaster, especially as he registered a career-low .219 batting average.

Nevertheless, if everything goes right, the Astros could still be World Series contenders. As of Opening Day, the Astros have +120 odds of winning the AL West and +2500 odds to win the World Series, according to MLB odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook.
