The Cincinnati Bengals are riding high after their impressive comeback win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15. A key part of that victory was Cincinnati's defense forcing Bucs quarterback Tom Brady to commit four turnovers on Sunday that set up numerous scoring opportunities for their offense.
Cornerback Eli Apple certainly let Brady hear it after taking down the accomplished gunslinger.
Apple said Brady was "fairly okay" in Week 15 "but not good enough to win." This is an obvious shot at the veteran QB, but it wasn't unprovoked.
Earlier in the week, Brady previewed the matchup with Cincinnati on his podcast. He praised the team overall, but his assessment of the Bengals' defense as "fairly tough" was viewed as a dig.
It's safe to say that quote was on the minds of Cincinnati's defense heading into this game. They showed him their true strength in the second half, forcing Brady to throw two interceptions and lose two fumbles as well. The Bengals also held the Buccaneers' offense scoreless in the final two quarters until a garbage-time touchdown with just under a minute left.
Maybe this will teach Brady to choose his words a little more carefully at this later stage of his career.
