The Denver Broncos shook up their coaching staff this week by firing first-year head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Though Jerry Rosburg has taken over as HC, it was revealed the team first offered defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero the gig, but he declined.
Evero spoke with the media on Thursday about his decision.

The 41-year-old defensive coordinator repeated that he thought the best choice for the team was to stick with overseeing his unit. Evero felt he could provide the "best value" in his same post, and the Broncos' brass agreed.
The DC was also asked about his interest in interviewing for the opening once the season is over. He gave a somewhat vague answer, saying being a head coach is what most people in his position strive for, but he's only focused on the final two games of the year.
Evero is expected to have his fair share of options once the season concludes. He's been highlighted as one of the top names that could earn a promotion to the head-coaching ranks this offseason following his defensive work with the Broncos and Super Bowl-winning Los Angeles Rams in 2021.
Despite losing numerous starters and reserves to season-ending injuries, Evero has helped Denver rank in the top eight for fewest points and yards allowed. He could be an ideal replacement for Hackett considering his familiarity with the personnel if he's interested in sticking around.
