New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz put up one hell of a season in 2022. That showing earned him the largest contract in MLB history for a relief pitcher, a five-year, $102 million deal.
Edwin Diaz Reliever of the Year
His 2022 performance also earned another honor, Diaz has been named the 2022 NL Reliever of the Year Award.
The award was much deserved. He was clearly the best closer in baseball, on a team that won 101 games. While the Mets disappointing in the playoffs, that early exit was not the fault of Diaz.
On the season, Diaz had 32 saves with a 1.31 ERA and an insane 118 strikeouts in just 62.0 innings pitched. He was incredible from start to finish.
The Mets have been busy early on this offseason trying to rebuild their pitching staff, but Diaz was their priority as soon as the season ended and they got the deal done.
Now, the Mets are currently +900 to win the 2023 World Series, according to FanDuel Sportsbook's latest MLB odds.
