While Jimmy Garoppolo may still hold an official spot on the San Francisco 49ers' roster, the keys of the franchise have been officially handed off to Trey Lance. Lance enters 49ers' training camp as an uncontested starter, for the first time in his brief NFL career, and there's excitement building for the young playmaker.

Fans got a brief look of their new signal-caller during his rookie campaign as Lance went on to complete 41-of-71 pass attempts for 603 yards and 5 touchdowns to 2 interceptions. He also added 168 yards and one score on the ground.

But now, it's all about how Lance will look and hopefully thrive in his new limelight. 49ers insider Rohan Chakravarthi shared some early reviews of Lance's training camp performance thus far.

Chakravarthi indicated Lance made "the throw of the day" on Monday with a 40-yard bomb to Brandon Aiyuk. This marked a second straight "strong" practice in a row for the new QB1.

Making throw after throw in training camp doesn't ensure a breakout campaign, but it's all that the 49ers faithful are hoping to see right now. Chakravarthi also detailed Lance's ability to make plays with his feet, including throws on the run and evading pressure.

That's exactly why the 49ers drafted the 22-year-old with the No. 3 overall pick during the 2021 NFL Draft. Lance is heralded for his athleticism and ability to make things happen, sometimes "special" things with his feet.

Lance will get his next big test when the 49ers begin regular season. It's unclear how much he'll play in the preseason games, but he'll be running the show in Week 1 when the 49ers visit the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Sept. 11.

The 49ers are early 6.5-point road favorites in that matchup, according to NFL odds on FanDuel Sportsbook.
