The Miami Dolphins and star cornerback Xavien Howard have agreed to a restructured contract. Following some public displeasure with his current deal, seeking more guaranteed money, The Dolphins and Howard have inked a new deal, giving the Pro-Bowler what he's desired.
The deal also represents an unprecedented moment, where Howard is believed to have been the first player to receive more money in a restructured deal while having at least four years remaining on his current contract.
And if you look at the numbers, Howard is worth it.
Howard has led the NFL in interceptions over the last three years combined, including 10 in 2020 alone. He also led the NFL is passes defended (20) in 2020. He has been a shutdown corner in every sense of the word for a Dolphins team that projects to have one of the better defenses in the NFL in 2021.
Xavien Howard Restructured Contract
Howard will now have the chance to make just short of $16.3 million in 2021.

Avoiding a holdout or long public contract dispute with one of your team's most productive and beloved payers is always a huge goal, and for a short time there it seemed like this could get sticky. But after head coach Brian Flores publicly stated how much they want to keep Howard in Miami for the long term, pen was put to paper pretty soon after. Now Howard and the Dolphins can focus all of their energy on what's most important, winning football games.
