The Miami Dolphins have poured a ton of resources into their secondary in recent years. It's clearly paying off. Miami is currently a top-10 pass defense by Football Outsiders' DVOA metrics, and the Dolphins are the league's second-best scoring defense.

In fact, this stat proves the Dolphins might actually have the best secondary in the NFL.

When Miami's top-five defensive backs have been targeted in coverage, opposing QBs have a passer rating of 71.2. For reference, that would be the third-worst passer rating among all starting QBs – one spot below Carson Wentz (73.4) and one ahead of Drew Lock (67.5).

Any time you make your opponent look like Wentz or Lock, you're clearly doing something right.

Every member of that secondary has been doing their part, but Xavien Howard has managed to stand above the bunch. Howard boasts an 86.6 grade from Pro Football Focus, which is currently the best such mark among all qualified CBs.

With Howard and Byron Jones locking down opponents on the perimeter, Miami is going to be a nightmare for opposing QBs for years to come.
