After racking up four sub-.500 records in the previous five campaigns, the Miami Dolphins shocked a lot of people by going 10-6 in the 2020 NFL season. While they just missed out on making the playoffs, the Dolphins have worked hard this offseason to improve their roster as they try to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2016. However, Miami still has its doubters despite its offseason additions.

FanDuel Sportsbook is currently projecting the Dolphins to miss the playoffs at -144 odds. Considering how Miami missed last year's playoffs by a single game, these odds are nothing short of disrespectful.

Miami Dolphins Playoff Odds

The truth is that there are a few reasons as to why the Dolphins have a good shot at making the playoffs. For example, it wouldn't be unrealistic to see one of last year's AFC teams, like the Indianapolis Colts or Pittsburgh Steelers, failing to make the 2021 postseason. After all, the Colts just lost to important pieces in QB Carson Wentz and OG Quenton Nelson for the next five to 12 weeks with foot injuries. Meanwhile, the Steelers fell off a cliff towards the end of the 2020 season, so it's not unfathomable to imagine them not being a dominant force in 2021. If either of those teams fails to make this year's playoffs, you can bet that the Dolphins will be ready to take their spot.

There's also the fact that QB Tua Tagovailoa is one year older and should be ready to take his game to the next level. Much to his joy, he'll be surrounded by a group of talented pass-catchers that include Miami veteran DeVante Parker, former Houston Texans No. 1 wideout Will Fuller V and 2021 first-round pick Jaylen Waddle. An offense built around those players combined with a defense that allowed just 21.1 points per game in 2020 (4th) has all the makings to shock the doubters next season.

If the Dolphins prove their haters wrong and make the playoffs, they have +3100 odds to win Super Bowl 56, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, which puts them in a tie with the Colts for 13th-best odds in the NFL.
