If the Miami Dolphins are going to pull off an upset in Week 3, they must figure out a way to contain Buffalo Bills wideout Stefon Diggs. Cornerback Xavien Howard will likely be tasked with trying to shut Diggs down, however, the veteran defender has been dealing with a groin injury that held him out of Wednesday's practice.

Fortunately, Dolphins defensive backs coach Sam Madison has shared an encouraging update on Howard's situation. NFL insider Cameron Wolfe reports that Madison is "not worried" about Howard's status, saying that it was a veteran rest day for the 29-year-old.

Xavien Howard Injury Update

Groin injuries can be too to shake, so the Bills made the right decision to give Howard the extra day of rest. The former Baylor Bear did return to practice on Thursday, so it seems like he's right on track to face the Bills.

Howard and the rest of Miami's secondary have done a solid job at shutting Diggs down since the wideout joined the Bills in 2020. While Diggs racked up 153 yards and a touchdown in the first of four meetings, the Dolphins have held him to an average of 5.3 receptions, 58.7 yards and 0.7 touchdowns in the subsequent three contests.

Hopefully, Howard is healed enough by Sunday to play an effective role in containing Diggs. The Houston, TX native has been solid thus far, recording six tackles and two broken-up passes while holding quarterbacks to a 44.4% completion rate and 93 yards with a touchdown on four completions.

Bills vs Dolphins Week 3

The Dolphins need Howard to put on a clinic if they're going to beat the Bills. FanDuel Sportsbook currently lists Miami as the 6.5-point underdog against Buffalo despite having home-field advantage.
