On Friday morning, ahead of the MLB's Winter Meetings, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed former Yankees relief pitcher Miguel Castro. The 27-year-old righty was acquired form the Mets prior to last season by the Yankees, and while injuries limited his time on the field and his effectiveness, Castro showed some real promise and potential, especially in high-leverage situations.

Castro and the Diamondbacks agreed to a one-year $3.5 million deal on Friday.

Castro, when healthy, possesses a fastball that ranks near the top of the league and a slider that is virtually un-hittable as his putaway pitch. While Castro only had a 4.05 ERA in 2022 in 29 innings, he did average more than a strikeout per inning.

Arizona gets to take a low-risk, one-year flyer on a guy with loads of arm talent. If Castro can stay healthy, he has the chance to be one of the best arms in the Diamondbacks bullpen, and at a great value.
