The 2021 NFL Draft is only a few weeks away and that means the stocks of some prospects are beginning to rise while others are beginning to fall. This is an elite wide receiver class that is loaded with talented players, which makes it hard to predict where each one will be taken.
For Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith, he is being disrespected by his current NFL Draft odds posted on FanDuel Sportsbook. His over/under for draft position is set at 11.5, which is much lower than fellow WR Ja'Marr Chase (6.5). It is also tied with his Crimson Tide teammate Jaylen Waddle.
DeVonta Smith Draft Odds
It's hard to believe people may be underestimating Smith given the prolific year he had in the last college football season. He hauled in 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and 23 touchdowns during his senior year. Plus, Smith averaged 16.9 yards per reception during his career at Alabama.
Of course, he also won the National Championship and was awarded the Heisman Trophy in 2020. Once thought of as a surefire top-10 pick, Smith may be falling due to his frame (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) being seen as a major disadvantage in the NFL. However, his talent makes up for that and then some.
Smith is also a long shot to be the first wide receiver drafted with odds set at +750 compared to Chase's -950. Overall, this is a player that has shown every indication he can make an impact at the next level and simply cannot be forgotten about. His smooth route-running skills and deadly speed will make one team in the first round very happy.
